Four Steps to Creating Your Maximalist Space
Following our recent trend report on Maximalism, we learnt that the style responds to art, rich layering and texture.
Today, Ana Zuravliova, interior design of Roman Blinds Direct has offered a four-step design guideline to achieving a maximalist look:
Colour:
Deep colours such as; teal, navy blue, burgundy and red, saffron and chocolate.

Furniture:
Masculine wooden furniture with a hit of the 18th century look. The chairs and sofas need to be made from expensive or expensive looking fabrics such as; silk and velour. Another maximalism look could be reached though classicism or art deco where wood have been used as much as in 18th century but just with a change of the shapes. Still curvy and heavy looking furniture, but with a more edgy finish; almost sharp corners and geometric detail in metallic.
Decorations and Accessories
This is the fun part…light fixtures in any metal, it can be brass, gold or silver. Oil paintings are a “must have” to create a full maximalism look to your space, it could be anything similar to that what you can spot in the world famous museums or get from flee market painted by someone aping the great masters.

Mirrors
Mirrors is another big thing, but it is important to consider the whole spirit of that decade; round or oval shaped mirrors in the frames (wooden or metal) would create the luxurious look by reflecting all the accessories and also making your space feel bigger.
