Architectural Abstract: Carey Lyon on Materials, BIM And Density

The National Architecture Conference hosted by the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) drew global leaders, architects and industry associates to Melbourne to explore contemporary applications and ideas surrounding material in architecture.

The program was bursting with architectural resources, with local speaker Carey Lyon speaking on surface material and the way architects are reconnecting with material and technology.

Lyon is a founding director of Lyons, one of Australia’s leading architectural firms, which has worked on many public and commercial projects, including the recently completed RMIT Swanston Academic Building. 

“Materials 2013 opens up your mind,” Lyon said of the conference theme.

“While in Australia it’s a reasonably conservative construction industry, the foreseeable future will see us working within conventional materials but finding out how to deliver them more easily.”
